John Cohn - Distinguished Engineer, IBM
John Cohn is currently an IBM Fellow and Chief Scientist of Design Automation for IBM's Systems and Technology group. Dr. Cohn has been a innovator in the area of design automation for both analog and digital custom integrated circuits for 24 years. He has roughly 50 patents issued or pending in the field of design automation, methodology, and circuits and has authored more than 30 technical papers and has contributed to four books on design automation He is an active member of the IBM Academy of Technology and currently serves on its governing Technology Council.
Dr Cohn received his undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering at MIT, and earned a PhD. at Carnegie Mellon University as part of the IBM Resident Study Program. In 2002 Dr. Cohn was elected a Fellow of the IEEE in recognition to contribution to the high performance custom circuit design automation.
Dr. Cohn is active in education issues at a local, state and national level. He has been an adjunct professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Vermont and has taught part time at both high school and elementary school levels. He is active in K12 Education Outreach and has performed his "Jolts and Volts" electricity show to more than 30,000 kids across the US
Craig DeLuca - Founder, The Global Challenge Award
Craig M. DeLuca has over eighteen years experience as a strategy consultant, CEO, and Corporate Director. He was a consultant with Gemini, a premier Boston-based global strategy firm. He was CEO of Executive Perspectives, a leading management education firm, purchased by Provant in 1998. Past clients include GTE, IBM, ATT, GAP, Xerox, Intrawest, Chase, and Abbott Labs. Mr. DeLuca also founded Schoolsuccess.net, a web-based education company, purchased by Pearson, PLC in 2001. He holds an MBA from Wharton and a BSEE from Cornell. Mr. DeLuca has served on many corporate and non-profit Boards of Directors and Advisory Boards including, Executive Perspectives, Inc., Technology Strategies, Inc., Intercon Systems, Inc., Vermont Public Oversight Commission, Stowe Planning Commission (chair), and Flynn Center.
Biddle Duke - Publisher, The Stowe Reporter
Biddle Duke has over 20 years experience in the publishing and communications business. He is currently owner and general manager of The Stowe Reporter LLC in Stowe, Vt. that publishes the award-winning weekly, The Stowe Reporter, in addition to The Waterbury Record, a general-interest magazine and a website, among other publications. In his career as a reporter and editor, Mr. Duke was the executive editor of the Buenos Aires Herald, the award-winning English-language daily newspaper in Argentina, and editorial-page editor of the Santa Fe, N.M. daily, The New Mexican, in addition to working as editor and reporter at weeklies and dailies in New York, New Mexico and South Carolina. As a reporter, Mr. Duke traveled extensively in the developing world, covering economic, human rights and political issues, including in Cuba, South Africa, Paraguay and Argentina. Among community and corporate board positions, Mr. Duke serves on the board of directors of the Buenos Aires Herald, teaches journalism and writing at the Stowe High School and chairs the board of the Mt. Mansfield Winter Academy, a private school in Stowe. Mr. Duke received his MA in Communications from New York University and studied for his undergraduate degree at the University of the Andes in Bogota before receiving his BA in Political Science from Duke University.
David Gibson - Executive Director, The Global Challenge Award
Dr. David Gibson is Executive Director of The Global Challenge and creator and project director of simSchool (www.simschool.org), a classroom flight simulator for training teachers. Dr. Gibson is also the Founder and President of CurveShift, an educational technology company (www.curveshift.com) that assists in the acquisition, implementation and continuing design of games and simulations, e-portfolio systems, data-driven decision making tools, and emerging Semantic Web technologies.
For over ten years, Gibson served as Director of Research and Development at the Vermont Institutes, where he concentrated on partnership development, new programs, systems analysis, evaluation, strategic planning, professional networks, national partners, and telecommunications in learning. His research and publications include work on complex systems analysis and modeling of education, Semantic Web applications and the future of learning, and the use of technology to personalize education for the success of all students. His new book “Games and Simulations in Online Learning” published by Idea Group, outlines the potential for games and simulation-based learning. He is currently involved in translating simSchool and articles into Korean.
David Rocchio - Managing Director, The Arno Group, LLC
David M. Rocchio is former Legal Counsel to Governor Howard Dean, M.D., of Vermont, where, in addition to providing general counsel advice, he was responsible for designing – and executing – approaches to achieve the Governor’s goals on the most critical policy initiatives. In addition, Mr. Rocchio chaired the Governor’s Development Cabinet and Criminal Justice Cabinet and was a senior policy advisor on complex issues, including the environment, energy policy and criminal justice matters. Previously he was an attorney at Hale and Dorr in Boston and a special litigator for Vermont’s Attorney General, where his specialty was the management and favorable resolution of complex litigation. Mr. Rocchio received his JD at Boston College Law School and his BA in Political Science from the University of Vermont.
Vinod Nair - Partner, Diamond Management & Technology Consultants Inc.
Vinod Nair, the Managing Partner of Diamond’s India practice, has been a trusted advisor to clients throughout India, Europe and South Africa on a range of strategic and operational issues over the past 10 years. Now based in Mumbai, Vinod’s clients include leading international companies in the mobile and fixed telecommunications, technology, media, and manufacturing sectors, as well as potential investors in the private equity sector. His expertise includes corporate and business unit strategy, investment assessment and due diligence support, market entry strategy and marketing execution, operational performance improvement and new business launches.
In the telecommunications arena Vinod has worked with leading fixed and mobile operators in Europe on such issues as successful market entry strategies for mobile operators, market segmentation and proposition development for voice and data offers, development and validation of fixed/mobile convergent solutions, analytical marketing techniques to improve customer lifetime values and mobile application strategies for handset vendors.
Vinod joined Diamond in 1999 and played a key role in establishing the firm’s UK practice. Prior to that, Vinod worked for McKinsey & Company in India and South Africa with a focus on helping clients improve their operational capabilities. He has also worked with OC&C Strategy Consultants in London, serving clients in the telecom, media and private equity sectors.
Vinod has a Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech.) degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai, and an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta.
